Joana Pereira | Neves & Ferrão

Joana Pereira, one of Neves & Ferrão’s architects

Joana Pereira is 32 years old and is a gem alfacinha. She has always studied in public schools and in 2006 she entered landscape architecture at Instituto Superior de Agronomia, having completed 2 years. It was then in 2008 that she decided to move to the Architecture course at the Faculdade de Arquitectura - UTL and in 2016 finished her Master's degree with a specialization in Urbanism. In the 4th year of the course she made Erasmus in Italy (Sardinia). During her academic career she gave explanations of Descriptive Geometry, went on to help with sales in sports shops and did research projects for the Goethe Institut.

In 2015 she started working at Neves & Ferrão where she remains to this day.
She contributes to the Department of Urban Rehabilitation (Departamento de Reabilitação Urbana - DRU) and also to the Event Production (Produção de Eventos - DPE)

She loves music and photography, the city and the countryside, and being with family.

We got to know her better

-What have the last 5 years at Neves & Ferrão been like?

I have learnt a lot the past 5 years.

We left college with great ease, thinking we knew enough to enter the job market. That becomes an illusion.

We know the basic fundamentals of what architecture is, but the human (customers) and economic (budgets) components are missing in this equation. In this sense, the experience at N&F has been very enriching, since I had the possibility to develop work in several areas. I have done Architecture Projects, 3D Modeling, Image Treatment, Event Production. I have also supported Energy Certification. The privilege of being surrounded by people from various areas, with diverse experiences, and in an open space has added to my professional training.

Most of all, the secret is to be open-hearted always, because there is always information in the air, and to ask many questions, always.

- As an architect, what work are you doing at Neves & Ferrão's DRU and DPE?

From concept to construction.
Execution projects, descriptive memories, budget estimates and quantity maps through 3D modeling and 3D model printing, in the Rehabilitation and Event Production aspect.

- Is there a particularly challenging project you have had

For me, any project is challenging. This is because each project that I receive has its nuance and charisma.
Whether it's design difficulty, delivery timings, customer demand, tight budget and so on… And as I push to do my best in each project, the challenge grows.

- A dream architecture project you have?

A Dream Project…
I do not know if it is unanimous among the Architects, but I would say that I have a vision to design my own house and watch it materialize. I think that besides being the dream project, it can also be the biggest challenge.

- What is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest insiration is my mother. For her resilience, optimism, courage and good heart.
In this area, I would say the architect Inês Lobo.

Thank you, Joana!
